Maxturm
Maxturm rises within Neue Maxburg in Munich’s old town, where Renaissance forms meet post-war modern architecture. Its setting places a distinctive tower beside the Munich District Court. The original Herzog-Max-Burg emerged in the late sixteenth century, then underwent major rebuilding in the early seventeenth and mid-twentieth centuries. Renaissance character remains visible beside later architectural work.
Sep Ruf and Theo Pabst shaped the post-war reconstruction of the complex. Their designs place modern lines alongside Renaissance style. The court uses these historic surroundings as part of Munich’s judicial landscape. Nearby Karolinenplatz adds a prominent obelisk to the streetscape. That contrast between tower, court, and post-war structures gives this corner of Munich its particular character.
