Friedensengel
In Munich’s Maximiliansanlagen park, the Friedensengel rises above Prinzregentenstrasse as a golden monument to peace and victory. Golden Nike stands thirty-eight metres above the city. The figure crowns a twenty-three-metre Corinthian column above a square temple measuring eight metres on each side.
Munich raised the monument in 1899 to commemorate twenty-five years of peace after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and 1871. Four gold mosaics show war, victory, peace, and cultural blessings. The Bavarian National Museum and Haus der Kunst stand along the grand avenue. Below, a fountain carries Baroque cherubs riding dolphins through the water.
Nike holds an olive branch in her right hand and Athena in her left. That pairing brings peace, warfare, and wisdom into one unmistakable silhouette. Safety work removed the statue in 1981, and restoration returned it above the column in 1983.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Munich. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
