Eisbachwelle
Eisbachwelle sits at the entrance to Munich’s Englischer Garten, where the Eisbach River forms a standing wave. From the banks and bridges, you can watch surfers balance on water moving through the city. The half-metre wave rises above a stone step at the river’s outlet, creating a fixed point for river surfing.
Strong current and cold water make this a demanding setting for experienced surfers. Stones beneath the surface add another hazard, so professional surfers use helmets when riding the wave. Surfers and spectators arrive from around the world, giving the riverbank a lively atmosphere beside the park.
You can also reach the spot with wheelchair access, making this dramatic stretch of river easier to experience from dry ground. The clearest detail stays in view: a narrow Munich river producing a continuous wave beside one of Europe’s large urban parks.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Munich. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
myTuur is a free city-guide app. Its tours are built from spots, and each spot carries a story that starts when you get there, to read or to listen to as you like.
