Badenburg

Badenburg stands in the southern part of Nymphenburg Palace Park in Munich, beside the larger Badenburger See. The building belongs to the park’s architectural ensemble. Nymphenburg Palace Park combines formal gardens with a landscape park and forms a protected historical monument in Germany. Canals and water features shape the surrounding grounds. The park began as a Baroque garden inspired by Vaux-le-Vicomte and Versailles, two French garden estates. Friedrich Ludwig Sckell reshaped the grounds from 1799. His design connects French Baroque planning with the English landscape garden. Badenburg forms one of several smaller park castles within this larger composition. The nearby Apollo Temple adds another architectural landmark. The lake, canals, and buildings create a setting where architecture and garden design remain closely connected.
