St. Mariä Geburt
St. Mariä Geburt stands beneath the old fortress in Germany, where rough stone walls follow the valley from north to south. A square tower rises above the northern gable, carrying an octagonal spire and a metal cross. Twelve broad steps with wrought-iron railings lead to the entrance and its round-arched wooden door. Stone crosses around the church recall priests who once served there.
Built between 1649 and 1650, the church began as the town’s first parish church and shaped its early development. Its single nave carries a cross-ribbed vault, while a recessed choir with a hipped roof closes the southern end. Baroque furnishings include a wooden high altar from Reichenstein monastery, two side altars, and a silver-gilt reliquary of Saint Liberatus. A Rococo pulpit and eighteenth-century wooden statues complete the interior.
The organ combines a case from 1741 with a rebuild from 1983 and has thirteen registers. Once the main parish church, the building now serves as a filial church for special services and celebrations, maintained by a local association. When the bells sound through the valley, the sturdy rural Baroque interior gives the quiet setting a clear musical presence.
