Adam et Ève

Adam et Ève stands in the Casino Gardens, a green public space in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Bronze figures of Adam and Eve rise together beneath the open sky. Colombian artist Fernando Botero created the sculpture in 1981, bringing public art into this garden setting. The surrounding paths combine greenery with several sculptures and other artworks.

Botero uses enlarged volume and rounded forms instead of realistic human anatomy. Their full proportions show the distinctive approach often associated with Boterismo. The biblical pair recalls the story of the first man and woman, a subject artists have explored across centuries. The outdoor setting places this interpretation within Monaco’s cultural landscape, alongside gardens and nearby landmarks.

The open placement lets you walk around the figures and observe them from different angles. Bronze gives the work a durable presence among the garden’s greenery. From each side, the standing forms turn a familiar biblical subject into a study of volume, shape and proportion.
