Pirelli HangarBicocca
Pirelli HangarBicocca brings contemporary art into Milan’s Bicocca district through a former Pirelli industrial plant. The converted complex began its public life in 2004. Its expansive exhibition halls place large-scale installations within the architecture of a preserved industrial setting.
Contemporary art production and promotion shape the programme, which combines permanent works with temporary exhibitions by international artists. Anselm Kiefer’s permanent installation The Seven Heavenly Palaces has occupied the space since 2015. Towering structures create a powerful encounter between sculpture, height, and industrial scale. Past exhibitions have presented artists including Trisha Baga and Cerith Wyn Evans, with each show responding to the surrounding halls.
An information centre, bookshop, and restaurant extend the visit beyond the galleries. Outside, Fausto Melotti’s sculpture Sequence offers a striking artistic welcome before you enter.
