Palazzo Crivelli

Palazzo Crivelli stands at Via Pontaccio 12 in Milan, a historic palace shaped across two floors. Don Flaminio Crivelli commissioned its construction in 1705. A slightly splayed arch rises between pilasters, while double scroll brackets support a bulging wrought-iron balcony. Simple stucco frames surround the windows across the relatively plain façade.

Construction followed Crivelli’s purchase of land from the Majno and Minola families during a transition between centuries. The building originally extended onto the street. Gardens and further family properties once filled the area between Via Solferino and Via San Simpliciano, making the estate twice its present size. That larger setting connected the residence with open ground and neighbouring family holdings.

Inside, a two-sided portico frames the courtyard with columns in the Tuscan order. A grand double staircase climbs through the interior with carved stone balustrades. Pilasters interrupt the balustrades and carry ornamental vases. Frescoes cover the rooms and survived the devastating fire of 1943. The surviving painted surfaces form the clearest trace of what endured beyond the palace’s stonework.
