Casa Cavigioli
Casa Cavigioli stands at Via Cappuccio 9 in Milan, presenting a historic façade within the city’s architectural streetscape. It was known earlier as Casa Garbagnati in Milan.
Built in the seventeenth century, the building housed several families rather than serving one household. Several internal courtyards shaped that shared residential arrangement. Multiple households lived beneath one roof while retaining distinct spaces around the courtyards. Its architecture combines Milanese Baroque with twentieth-century Neobaroque elements, bringing two periods together across one building.
Simple stucco and masonry window frames keep the façade restrained, while wrought iron balconies add a contrasting detail. Giovanni Greppi renovated the interior in 1925, while the exterior remained carefully preserved. The entrance portal sits asymmetrically, with a lowered arch and a stone cartouche. That lowered arch creates a memorable focal point against the plain façade.
