Casa Cavalli

Casa Cavalli stands at number six on Via Dante in Milan, presenting a neorenaissance facade shaped by eclectic design. Its blue stucco background gives the street-facing building a rare colour in Milanese architecture.

Built between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the building appeared as Via Dante itself opened. That timing connects its design with eclecticism, which combines elements from different historical periods. At ground level, round stone arches frame medallions and establish a clear Renaissance reference. Above them, first-floor windows use Florentine biforas with hanging capitals inside a Bramantesque architrave. The third floor repeats those Bramantesque biforas, while simpler frames distinguish the second and fourth floors.

These levels balance ornate references with quieter framing across the facade. The contrast between carved window surrounds and the unusual blue surface remains its most distinctive detail.
