Schmiedezunfthaus
Schmiedezunfthaus stands in Memmingen’s oldest quarter, Welfenstadt, within a protected historic ensemble. It is a three-storey building dating from the seventeenth century. Zangmeisterstraße extends north from the marketplace along a traffic-calmed route through this historic area.
Three axes organise the façade, while the upper floors project over broad segmental arches supported by consoles. A flat, three-sided bay window marks the first floor. Its profiled console carries a stucco mask, and ear-framed door surrounds add another distinctive detail. The ground floor contains a flower shop with a modern shop installation, while the upper floors provide residential space.
Zangmeisterstraße once formed part of the connecting road to Lake Constance. Its position now places the building among Memmingen’s historic streets and architectural landmarks. The most memorable detail remains the stucco mask beneath the projecting bay window.
