Sankt Pauli kyrka
Sankt Pauli kyrka rises in Sweden as a yellow-brick church with a distinctive hexagonal plan. Its central tower reaches above a ring of smaller turrets.
Emil Viktor Langlet designed the building, which rose between 1879 and 1882 on the former marshland of Östra Rörsjön. The structure rests on heavy piles, and its soft ground continues to shape the building’s slow settlement.
Inside, art nouveau lamps cast a warm light. Two chapels contain painted biblical scenes, while a communion jug associated with King Oscar II forms part of the interior history.
The spacious church also hosts worship, concerts, children’s choirs, book circles, café mornings and social outreach. Music gains resonance from the building’s faceted interior.
A copper roof changed through successive repairs before aluminium replaced it, with the surface intended to weather towards silver. Together, the brick geometry, resonant space and active community give this church a layered architectural character.
