Royal
Royal is a cinema in Sweden where a gently curved screen stretches from wall to wall and floor to ceiling. Two curtains and a small proscenium frame the image. Amphitheatrical seating gives every row an unobstructed view, while a level projection axis keeps pictures free from keystone distortion.
It opened on 15 March 1961, created under manager Sten Löfberg as a cinema for every film format. Windjammer inaugurated the auditorium in three-strip Cinemirama. Three Century 35-millimetre Cinemiracle projectors, two Todd-AO machines and Philips 75-millimetre lenses once filled its projection booth. Some original lenses still serve 70-millimetre presentations.
Doctor Zhivago, How the West Was Won and The Sound of Music all reached this screen, with the latter running for 72 weeks. Dolby stereo, DTS and new speaker arrays accompany the neon marquee and classic auditorium. The auditorium also provides wheelchair access alongside its neon marquee and classic proportions.
