Diana
Diana stands on a gentle grassy mound in Sweden as Ernst Billgren’s playful, unsettling reimagining of a classical guardian. Bronze animals rise from the lawn: a swan neck arches upward, a bear’s flank pushes through the turf, and deer bodies stretch into the air.
Ernst Billgren installed the sculpture in June 2009, replacing an older, more conventional Diana that disappeared in the 1970s. A ring of bronze deer surrounds the central creature, while children climb across its backs and adults pause to study the strange assembly. Myth becomes tactile here, joining hunting and guardianship with the familiar life of a park.
Look for the discreet quiver tucked into bronze grass and the small golden swan shining among darker patina.
