Panteón Martí
The Panteón Martí is a mausoleum within San Miguel Cemetery, one of Málaga’s historic burial grounds. Older burial sites surround this quiet setting in Málaga. Among the cemetery’s oldest structures, the monument offers a view of nineteenth-century funerary architecture and customs. Intricate designs mark the monument’s exterior surfaces.
The Martínez Molis family originally owned the mausoleum, according to a 1930 document concerning the adjacent Clemens mausoleum. Later, the Martín Estévez family became connected with it. That family also had ties to Málaga’s bullring, linking the burial place with the city’s public life.
An original sculpture once stood here as an allegory of death. That sculpture has since disappeared from the site. Today, the quiet atmosphere and intricate details reflect the burial customs and family histories of nineteenth-century Málaga.
