St. Quintin
St. Quintin stands in Mainz as the city’s oldest parish church, first documented in 774. Its Gothic hall church presents a three-nave longhouse beside a massive bell tower.
Construction took place between 1288 and 1330, replacing an earlier building. A fire damaged the church in 1348, while later changes brought a Baroque redesign in 1721 and neo-Gothic furnishings after renovations from 1869 to 1888. The church served as barracks during the Thirty Years’ War and again in 1813, then survived Second World War damage with its walls intact.
The bell tower dates from 1489 and once served as a fire observation station. Inside, an English-Romantic organ from 1906 has twenty-three stops and a neo-Gothic oak façade.
