Tisch der Austreibung

Tisch der Austreibung is a sculpture by German artist Günther Uecker, created in 1977 and located in Linz. The work belongs to Forum Metall, an open-air sculpture collection. Along the Danube, this public setting brings modern art into contact with Linz’s industrial identity. Uecker’s nails define the sculpture’s distinctive tactile surface. Repeated geometric arrangements catch light and cast changing shadows as your viewpoint around the work shifts. The nail surface creates visual movement without the sculpture moving. Its title suggests expulsion, while the table form connects shelter with community and collective power. Protection becomes an uneasy idea beneath this table.

The work reflects Uecker’s engagement with peace, human rights, conflict, violence, and social responsibility. Uecker also worked with installations, paintings, kinetic objects, and stage designs. His practice repeatedly links material, light, movement, and public questions through direct physical forms. Forum Metall includes sculptures by Herbert Bayer and Max Bill.
