Strömung
Strömung stands on the Danube riverbank in Linz, near the Brucknerhaus, where flowing metal forms meet the river’s current. Erwin Reiter created the sculpture in 1977 for Forum Metall. Chrome-nickel steel gives its broad, band-like shapes an industrial surface and a sense of movement. The wave-like structure reflects Reiter’s interest in forms that express emotion while retaining geometric clarity.
Forum Metall brought large-scale metal sculptures into the open air, making contemporary art part of everyday city life. Austrian factories produced the works, while the project connected Linz’s steelmaking heritage with modern artistic practice. This sculpture remained beside the Danube as part of the city landscape. Its polished curves offer a lasting image of steel shaped to suggest something alive.
