St. Michael
St. Michael is a Roman Catholic parish church in Linz’s Bindermichl district, within Upper Austria. The church belongs to the Linz-South deanery and the Diocese of Linz.
Built between 1954 and 1957, the protected monument presents a modern design by architect Friedrich Reischl. Its structure combines poured concrete, steel, and glass.
The present church emerged as Bindermichl developed from a largely rural area into a growing residential district. Its interior changed during a major renovation in 1988.
Lydia Roppolt’s glass frieze brings colour to the interior, while Rudolf Kolbitsch’s Stations of the Cross add another artistic focus. Gregor Hradetzky built the organ in 1964.
The organ remains part of the church’s musical life near the choir. The architecture uses concrete, steel, and glass to distinguish St. Michael from older churches nearby.
The church also hosts services, celebrations, and gatherings for the local community. Its protected status recognises St. Michael’s historical and cultural importance within Linz’s built heritage.
