Pfarrkirche St. Magdalena

The Pfarrkirche St. Magdalena stands in Linz’s St. Magdalena district as a Roman Catholic parish church dedicated to Mary Magdalene. Its church and former cemetery are protected as historical monuments. A massive roof, an offset tower with an onion dome, and lower side aisles shape the uneven exterior.

Medieval foundations still survive beneath the present church. A chapel stood here between 1163 and 1169, after Gisela von Haselbach founded it in memory of her son Otto II. Haselbach became officially a parish in 1383. The church changed status repeatedly before becoming independent again in 1858. It joined the larger Urfahr parish in 2023.

Inside, late Gothic vaulting meets Baroque furnishings, Neo-Gothic additions, and twentieth-century artworks. The 1960 stained-glass windows show the Baptism of Christ, Christ with Simeon, and Noli me tangere. A late Gothic baptismal font from the first half of the fifteenth century stands among the historic furnishings. The organ has two manuals and seventeen stops. A bell from 1836 carries reliefs of Mary with Child and the Crucifixion.
