Johanneskirche
Johanneskirche is a Protestant parish church in Linz’s Neue Heimat district, designed by architect Hubert Taferner. Its architecture uses concrete, brick, glass, and a gabled roof.
The church complex places the main building, parish house, and freestanding tower around an open forecourt. The tower stands apart from the church and carries a cross.
Dark-brown structural elements contrast with lighter unfinished concrete walls and the northern entrance’s geometric beams. Glass and brick alternate behind the entrance grid.
Inside, a glazed vestibule leads towards a gallery, bare concrete walls, and a glass eastern wall. Colored windows illuminate the chancel with scenes from the Passion and the Book of Revelation.
Walter Ritter’s concrete reliefs show Christ with bread and chalice among the apostles on the chancel wall. Margret Bilger designed the colored glass, produced at Schlierbach Abbey’s workshop.
The parish house attaches to the church’s west side and extends beyond the nave. Johanneskirche serves the Evangelical Parish Linz-Süd and supports worship and community activities.
