Färbertor
Färbertor is a city gate in Landsberg am Lech, forming part of the historic fortification system. Its passage opens through an old-town street. Cobblestones lead towards the gate, linking the structure with the surrounding historic street layout.
Built as an entrance through the defensive walls, it helped regulate movement into and out of the town. Travellers, merchants, locals and goods passed through it. Together with Bäckertor, Bayertor and Schmalzturm, it formed part of a network protecting and organising the old town. Its sturdy design includes thick walls associated with medieval fortification architecture. The name Färber refers to dyers and may connect the area with textile dyeing.
A black-and-white photograph from 1939 shows the gate from the city side, looking south. That image records its place in Landsberg’s daily life across generations. The structure also appears in photographs and postcards as a marked feature of the cityscape.
