Blaulach

Blaulach is a protected nature reserve in Germany, where an old Neckar river arm lies below the highlands. Meadows meet quiet water, reeds, wildflowers, and a natural forest climbing the hillside. Rare wetland plants grow along the marshy edges, while animal species find shelter in this disappearing habitat. Fresh springs emerge from the slope. Small landslides reveal how water and earth continue shaping the ground beside the former river course. Railway tracks run along one edge, but the reserve itself centres on water, meadow, and woodland.

Since 1990, careful protection has preserved this mixture of open and wooded habitats. To the north, Blaulach borders the larger Mittleres Neckartal protected landscape. That connection places the old river arm within a wider network of conserved land. A local secondary school has carried the name since October 2022. Look for spring water rising from the hillside, a detail that makes this quiet wetland feel constantly alive.
