Lorettokapelle
Lorettokapelle stands on Staaderberg in Constance, surrounded by greenery with views across Lake Constance. A wooden porch marks its simple exterior. Built in 1638, the chapel commemorates Swedish troops withdrawing peacefully after besieging and shelling Constance in 1633. Its design follows the Holy House in Loreto, Italy.
Surviving frescoes inside reveal the building’s age and religious purpose. A freestanding outdoor chapel stands beside it, while people still gather here for prayer, baptisms, weddings, and community services. The chapel also marks a stop on the Jakobsweg, the pilgrimage route leading to Santiago de Compostela. Its history links a local building with the Thirty Years’ War and a wider European pilgrimage tradition.
Walking routes pass through the surrounding area from Allmannsdorf and Petershausen, with Lorettowald nearby. A south-facing bench offers a quiet place to look across the lake and landscape. Pilgrims, hikers, and worshippers therefore share the same small site on Staaderberg.
