Düppeler Forst
Düppeler Forst is a protected forest area in Kleinmachnow, Brandenburg, where woodland trails meet layers of railway and Cold War history. You can walk through peaceful surroundings while exploring the Berlin Wall Trail and routes such as the Biotop Dreilinden Loop and Griebnitz Canal Loop.
The forest contains the Alte Stammbahnbrücke, a surviving railway structure from the Berlin-Potsdam Railway, opened in 1838 as Prussia’s first railway line. German troops destroyed the bridge over the Teltow Canal in April 1945, ending rail traffic between Berlin-Zehlendorf and Potsdam-Griebnitzsee. S-Bahn services reached Berlin-Düppel after the war, until the Berlin Wall disrupted the connection in 1961.
Colourful graffiti now covers the old bridge, creating a vivid contrast with its railway past. Along the paths, local flora and fauna add a natural focus to a place shaped by both landscape and division.
