Hafen 77
Hafen 77 stands on a green space at Tirpitzhafen in Kiel, where rusted steel forms a sculpture shaped by maritime life. Felix Fehlmann created it in 1977, arranging welded plates in changing directions so surfaces, lines and shadows suggest moving waves.
The steel came from the English coal freighter Highlandsteamer, built in the 1930s. Thick ship ropes connect the structure to bollards, joining the openness of international shipping with the security of a harbour. Swedish shipowner Sten Allan Olsson commissioned and donated the work, and evening illumination has highlighted it since 2011.
The sculpture combines a former ship’s weathered plates with ropes that still appear ready to hold a vessel in place. Its location is wheelchair accessible.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Kiel. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
