Wächter
Wächter is a bronze sculpture by German artist Kurt Lehmann, created in the early 1960s and located in Hanover. An abstract male figure sits on a grassy area. Angular planes, exaggerated proportions, and omitted details suggest the body without following naturalistic representation. Strict geometric architecture contrasts with the sculpture’s flowing forms.
Lehmann shifted attention from realistic anatomy toward a modern play of form. He studied at the State Art Academy in Kassel. He later became a professor of sculpture at the Technical University of Hanover and exhibited at the first Documenta in 1955. His artistic language leaves the figure recognisable through posture and proportion rather than facial or anatomical detail.
