Goethebrücke
Goethebrücke crosses the Leine in Hanover, linking Goethestraße with Hohe Ufer and Leibnizufer. Its sandstone arch rises within the city’s network of riverside crossings.
Wilhelm Launhardt designed the bridge, built between 1872 and 1873 after Hanover filled its former city moat. That work opened routes through Goethestraße and Humboldtstraße, connecting Glocksee with the old town after plans had stalled since 1828. The bridge replaced Cavalierbrücke, while prison-foundation remains still stand near its base at Clevertor in Calenberger Neustadt. ÜSTRA-Haus and Leine-Haus frame the crossing, both added in the early 1960s.
A 23.4-metre span and 29.2-metre width define the segmental arch. Pointed arches, trefoils and Hanover’s coat of arms decorate the balustrade, while Martin-Neuffer-Brücke lies upstream and Clevertorbrücke downstream.
