Friedenskirche
Friedenskirche is an Evangelical Lutheran hall church in Hanover’s Zoo district, built in 1927 with community rooms and residences beside the worship hall. Its angled layout gives the building a clear architectural character.
Air raids during the Second World War caused severe damage, yet reconstruction led to reconsecration in April 1949. Saint George appears on the facade in a depiction donated in 1938, while the altar window holds the Angel of Annunciation with its message, “Peace on Earth.” Community life includes regular services, neighbourhood activities and a Saturday farmers’ market with local produce. Environmental work includes the “Churches for Future” initiative and Frieda, a community cargo bike that supports fewer car journeys.
The organ, built by Hanover’s Hammer company in 1953, has thirteen pipe registers across two manuals and a pedal. A 1997 overhaul added thirty-one digital registers, combining mechanical and electric actions in one instrument.
