Stage Operettenhaus

Stage Operettenhaus stands on Hamburg’s lively Reeperbahn as a performing-arts theatre for musicals and other events. Large foyer windows look onto the busy street, bringing the surrounding nightlife into the building. Wheelchair access and modern facilities support audiences attending performances, galas, conferences, and evening functions.

The venue opened in 1841 as Circus Gymnasticus before becoming Central Halle about twenty-five years later. In 1920, it took the name Operettenhaus Hamburg after several changes in use and identity. War and other historical upheavals challenged the theatre, yet performances continued to anchor it within Hamburg’s cultural life. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats premiered here in 1986 under Stella Entertainment, marking a major chapter in its musical history. Stage Entertainment later acquired the remaining shares and purchased the building from Hamburg in 2011. Its clearest visual detail remains the foyer glazing, where theatre visitors can watch the Reeperbahn’s movement outside.
