Planetarium
Hamburg Planetarium stands in Winterhude, at the centre of Hamburg’s Stadtpark, inside a former water tower. Its Art Deco structure has belonged to Hamburg’s cultural heritage since 1981.
Oskar Menzel designed the tower, which rose between 1912 and 1915 before becoming a planetarium in 1924. The doors opened in 1930, with a Zeiss Universarium Mark II projector at the centre. Projection technology advanced through Mark IV, Mark VI and Universarium IX systems, installed across the following decades. Since 2006, the Universarium IX has carried journeys through space beneath the dome. Concerts, presentations and film screenings add variety beyond astronomical shows.
Renovation work from 2015 created a ground-level entrance, more space and two elevators. The elevators connect the Star Hall and rooftop observation deck, while wheelchair access makes the building easier to explore. From the terrace, you can look across Hamburg and the surrounding Stadtpark.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Hamburg. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
myTuur is a free city-guide app. Its tours are built from spots, and each spot carries a story that starts when you get there, to read or to listen to as you like.
