Roßkopfturm

The Roßkopfturm rises above the treetops on 737-metre Roßkopf mountain in Germany’s Black Forest. This steel lattice tower reaches 34.4 metres. From its observation platform, you can see the Black Forest, Rhine Valley, Kaiserstuhl, Vosges, and distant Alps.

The tower honours Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden, and also carries the name Friedrichsturm. The Schwarzwaldverein commissioned the structure, and architect Philipp Anton Fauler designed it. Its construction commemorated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Baden Black Forest Club’s founding in Freiburg.

Paths through the Black Forest bring hikers and mountain bikers towards the tower. The easiest route begins near the Waldgaststätte and St. Ottilien Chapel. It climbs 257 metres before reaching the platform through 137 wooden steps.
