Winterpalais
Winterpalais rises in Germany with a neoclassical façade that brings nineteenth-century court architecture into view. Its early nineteenth-century rooms once offered Duchess Caroline Amalie a private retreat. More than thirty heated rooms, stables, and grand salons served her expanded residence.
Queen Victoria visited her step-grandmother here while still young, adding a royal family story to the building’s history. Later, ministers, boarding-house residents, newspaper workers, and government offices occupied its rooms. Neglect followed, and partial demolition in 2010 removed much of the original structure.
Rebuilding began in 2011, combining restored historic elements with simple, functional modern spaces. Today, the city library fills the building, while a reconstructed vestibule displays classicist stucco. The courtyard preserves Caroline Amalie’s memory through the name Karolinenhof.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Gotha. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
myTuur is a free city-guide app. Its tours are built from spots, and each spot carries a story that starts when you get there, to read or to listen to as you like.
