Prinzenpalais
Prinzenpalais is a two-storey neoclassical villa in Germany, with broad windows and a central projection framed by three grand doorways. Its clear proportions reflect Palladian ideas and make the bright façade a study in balance.
Prince August commissioned the house in 1776 from Hans Wilhelm von Thümmel, then welcomed Goethe and Herder for discussions about Enlightenment thought and the French Revolution. Later, a gentleman’s house expanded the complex, while fire, the March Revolution, and changing uses reshaped its history. The rooms served as a ducal guesthouse, club headquarters, wartime shelter, and youth club before restoration revived them for seniors and public events in 2019.
A central staircase rises beneath a lantern, bringing natural light into the upper rooms.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Gotha. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
