Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein

Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein is a musical theatre in Füssen, Bavaria, beside Lake Forggensee. It stands about four kilometres from Neuschwanstein Castle, with castle and lake views from its grounds. Josephine Barbarino designed the building, whose romantic forms meet modern stage technology. The accessible venue rises 31 metres and stretches 160 metres along an artificial peninsula.

Construction began on 25 August 1998, and the theatre opened after nineteen months. Musicals connected with Ludwig II lead a programme spanning concerts, family productions, open-air events, galas, and dinner theatre. Examples include Ludwig², Cinderella, Elisabeth, Zeppelin, and Pretty Woman. Private events, conferences, weddings, and guided backstage tours also use the spacious premises. Restaurants, lounges, a baroque garden, and a royal beer garden complete the setting.

At the centre of the stage, a revolving platform ranks among Europe’s largest and most modern. An integrated basin holds around 90,000 litres of water for stage effects. The auditorium can accommodate up to 1,355 people for performances beside the Bavarian Alps.
