Sitzender
Sitzender stands in Frankfurt’s Eschenheimer Anlage as a public sculpture by Michael Siebel. A seated naked male figure emerges from red sandstone. The original block remains visible around the body, while the arms rest on the thighs and the face looks grim. The sculpture is accessible to wheelchair users.
The stone once formed part of the old Friedrich Stoltze monument, removed in 1970. That earlier use gives the material a traceable Frankfurt history. Siebel shaped the figure by removing material with traditional tools, including hammers and chisels. Stone and body remain visibly joined in one block. The rough block and carved body create visible tension between mass and human form.
