Kaiserplatz
Kaiserplatz is a central plaza in Frankfurt am Main’s Innenstadt district, linking the city centre with Taunusanlage. The Junior-Haus stands to the west, while the Commerzbank Tower rises to the north. The Steigenberger Hotel Frankfurter Hof borders the southern side, with Roßmarkt, Goetheplatz, Rathenauplatz and Hauptwache about 200 metres northeast.
The city created the plaza in 1872 through a street opening connecting the stations at Taunusanlage with the centre. Before then, the Weiße Hirsch estate occupied this part of Frankfurt. Between 1947 and 1955, the plaza carried the name Friedrich-Ebert-Platz.
At the centre, the Kaiserplatzbrunnen holds a large basin, a chalice-shaped pillar and a bowl carved from one piece of porphyry. Raphael von Erlanger gave the fountain to Frankfurt in 1876. Unfiltered Main water once caused summer odours, while the restored installation uses tap water. Underground railway construction temporarily removed it, and workers reinstalled it in 1974.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Frankfurt. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
