ICH-Denkmal
The ICH-Denkmal stands in Frankfurt’s Mainuferanlage, where Hans Traxler created an interactive sculpture with stonemason Reiner Uhl. Its name appears in gold letters on a stone pedestal.
The pedestal resembles a monument for a celebrated historical figure, but its top remains deliberately empty. You can climb the rear staircase and stand above the inscription.
This arrangement turns each visitor into part of the artwork and gives the German word “ICH” a physical presence. The word “ICH” means “I” in German.
A nearby display board shows Traxler’s drawings, including suggested poses for visitors and their dogs. The sculpture belongs to Frankfurt’s “Komische Kunst” series in the Grüngürtel.
Green surroundings frame the stone work between Rudererdorf and Gerbermühle in Frankfurt’s Oberrad district. The platform records the ICH-Denkmal as wheelchair accessible.
This artwork offers a playful meeting point between public space, personal identity, and Frankfurt’s comic-art tradition. Visitors can make the empty pedestal their own setting for a photograph.
