Dora Schindel
The Dora Schindel Stolpersteine lie in a Frankfurt pavement, where small brass plaques mark a former voluntary residence. Each plaque carries a person’s name, birth date, and fate.
The memorial belongs to Gunter Demnig’s Stolpersteine art project for victims of the Nazi regime. Dora Schindel was born in 1893 and deported to Minsk in 1941, where she was murdered. Her husband, Mendel Schindel, suffered the same fate. Their children Frida, Rosa, Isidor, and Susi escaped through Kindertransport to England and Denmark in 1939. The brass surface brings this family’s history into the street, where passers-by encounter individual lives rather than an anonymous number of victims.
