Wording
Wording is a sculpture by Piet Killaars at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. You would see a hand engaging with an abstract form, a shape Killaars used to suggest growth. The concrete original stood in a pond between the Atlas and Vertigo buildings. Water made the sculpture appear to rise from the campus landscape.
Killaars designed the work between 1966 and 1968 for the university’s developing campus. Contractors from its first construction phase gave the sculpture, which was unveiled in summer 1968. The pond later became a grassy lawn, changing the setting around the artwork. A bronze version based on the concrete design entered a long-term loan to Museum Beelden aan Zee in 2020. Its lasting image is the hand meeting a rising form, linking human action with emergence and development.
