Sint-Joriskerk
Sint-Joriskerk stands in Stratum, Eindhoven, as a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church with tall windows and pointed arches. Its upward lines reflect nineteenth-century Gothic Revival design. The present building was completed in 1885 to a design by H. van Tulder from Tilburg. J. van Gils added the prominent tower between 1910 and 1911, with a commemorative stone dated 13 June 1910.
The Sint Joris parish traces its Catholic roots to 1489, serving Stratum except during the Reformation from 1637 to 1796. Restoration work finished in 2006, preserving the building for parish life. Since 2012, the parish has shared administration with communities in southern Eindhoven, while this church remains a parish centre. Regular services continue alongside baptisms, first communions, weddings, Advent, Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter celebrations. National heritage protection recognises its cultural and historical value.
The statues above the entrance carry an unusual local story: some were reportedly intended for another church. One family memory recalls a girl allowed to climb the tower when its rooster was installed, after excelling in catechism lessons. That small rooftop figure connects the lofty architecture with generations of everyday parish life.
