Westfalenhalle
Westfalenhalle stands in Dortmund as a multifunctional venue combining Kongresszentrum Dortmund, Messe Dortmund, and an indoor arena. Visitors find conference rooms, exhibition halls, and spaces for concerts, balls, and sporting championships. The original building opened before World War II, was destroyed during the war, and returned after reconstruction. Its Große Westfalenhalle and Kleine Westfalenhalle hosted exhibitions, balls, and concerts before Dortmund’s opera house opened.
The protected monument belongs to a wider complex containing Eissportzentrum Westfalenhallen, Stadion Rote Erde, Westfalenstadion, and Helmut-Körnig-Halle. International performers have included ABBA, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Madonna, and the Spice Girls. Iron Maiden recorded the live release Death on the Road inside the venue. World figure skating and IIHF ice hockey championships have also brought major international sport to these halls. Kongresszentrum Dortmund provides flexible rooms and halls, while Messe Dortmund hosts trade fairs alongside the arena’s entertainment programme.
