Vehoff-Haus

Vehoff-Haus stands in Dortmund between the Reinoldikirche and the Marienkirche, placing historic architecture among two notable churches. Its position beside the Marienkirche shapes a building closely connected with the surrounding religious landmarks. The first construction dates to 1607, giving the site more than four centuries of architectural history.

In 1905, builders rebuilt the structure on its original foundations and designed it to complement the nearby Marienkirche. Bombing during the Second World War almost completely destroyed the building. Reconstruction began in 1945, and restoration completed in 1958 gave the building its present appearance. The surviving foundations and carefully restored form preserve a visible link between Dortmund’s earlier architecture and its post-war rebuilding.
