St. Anna

St. Anna stands in Dortmund’s Innenstadt-West as a former Roman Catholic parish church. Its neo-Romanesque façade presents twin towers in ashlar masonry around the main portal. A square beside the building is flanked by the parish house and community centre, while the recessed choir closes in a semicircular apse. The broad central nave has a flat ceiling, and low side aisles open through arcades with alternating supports.

Georg Spelling designed the basilica, which rose in 1912 and 1913. The clerestory windows gather in groups of three, giving the interior a measured rhythm. In 2003, the building passed to the Polish Catholic Mission in Dortmund, and the parish dissolved in 2013. Its architecture holds a visible link between Dortmund’s industrial past, migration history and urban transformation.
