Kreuzkirche
Kreuzkirche stands in Berghofen, a Dortmund district, as an evangelical church serving the local congregation. It belongs to the Evangelical Church of Westphalia. Sandstone façades place the building between Expressionism, Gothic echoes, and modern architecture. L. Behrens designed it, and construction finished in 1929 after Berghofen became independent in 1895.
Earlier services took place in a Berghofen chapel from 1890. A third pastoral position for Berghofen Christians opened in Aplerbeck in 1872. Renovations followed in 1967, then in 1991 and 1992 under Lothar Kallmeyer and Wolfgang Herbst. The building is a protected monument listed in Aplerbeck’s architectural heritage register.
Inside, windows follow New Testament scenes from the Bethlehem Window through Good Friday, Easter, and Ascension. Four pointed arches conclude the sequence with Pentecost. Three bronze bells are tuned to e', g', and a'.
