Haus Dellwig
Haus Dellwig is a moated castle in Dortmund’s Lütgendortmund district, surrounded by the Dellwiger Bach nature reserve. Its manor house stands within a moat more than eighty metres wide.
A northern forecourt, built in the early eighteenth century, forms a brick horseshoe with a gabled roof. A three-arched brick bridge replaced the drawbridge in the nineteenth century.
The whitewashed manor house has two right-angled wings, a high basement, and a richly decorated main portal. A square tower rises at the southwest corner beneath a slate-covered dome.
The complex occupies more than eleven hectares of greenery that once formed an English landscape garden. The Dellwiger Forest nearby is popular with walkers and cyclists.
The von Dellwig family built the castle, whose recorded history reaches back to a document from 1179. The city of Dortmund acquired the property in 1978.
The east wing houses the Lütgendortmund Local History Museum, with exhibits on local history, crafts, agriculture, and mining. Haus Dellwig has stood as a listed building since 1997.
