Faulturm
The Faulturm stands in Dinkelsbühl, Germany, at the town’s northwestern corner within its medieval defensive system. Today, the historic tower stands beside the Parkwächterhäuschen and the Zwinger. Together, these structures form a defensive ensemble beside the Rothenburger Weiher, with one of Dinkelsbühl’s scenic views.
During the medieval period, the tower served as a debtors’ prison for people unable to pay. Its position formed part of the city’s defence. The neighbouring structures helped create a defensive line, connecting imprisonment with Dinkelsbühl’s wider fortifications. Today, the former prison has a cultural role and sometimes hosts storytelling events.
The contrast between the tower and Parkwächterhäuschen gives the site its clearest historical detail. One place brings together medieval justice, city defence, and a view across the Rothenburger Weiher.
