UAA
UAA, the Ungers Archive for Architectural Studies, occupies the former residence and office of architect Oswald Mathias Ungers in Cologne, Germany. The house brings architectural work and living space together, with rooms that reflect his ideas about space, design and education.
The archive preserves Ungers’ sketches, plans, photographs and models from every project, alongside theoretical writings, university teaching materials, publications, manifestos, lectures and professional correspondence. These holdings support doctoral theses, research, symposia and exhibitions, while guided tours reveal the humanistic approach that remains present in the house. More than 12,000 books extend the view across 500 years of architectural history, from Renaissance treatises through Baroque and Classicism to modern architecture, with many first editions.
Original models and artworks connected with Ungers’ life and practice add a tangible dimension to the collection. The archive and library welcome visitors by appointment, making the former home and office a place where built work, architectural thought and personal surroundings meet.
