Tour du Suquet

Tour du Suquet is a medieval stone tower at the summit of Le Suquet, Cannes’s historic hilltop quarter. Thick masonry walls and a visible defensive design connect the structure with the city’s medieval fortifications. From the top, panoramic views extend across Cannes, the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea. Below, narrow cobbled streets wind among traditional buildings, shops, galleries and restaurants.

Construction began in 1088 and reached completion in 1395, leaving the tower as one of Cannes’s oldest surviving structures. The building now forms part of the Musée de la Castre complex, whose collections include primitive art, Mediterranean antiquities and nineteenth-century Provençal landscapes. Exhibits also cover anthropology and local history, giving the surrounding region a cultural context.

A narrow, winding staircase leads upwards through the medieval structure, where the climb reveals thick stonework before the city opens below. From this height, Le Suquet’s layout becomes clear, with its alleys gathered around the hill and the sea beyond.
