Square de Verdun
Square de Verdun is a public garden in Cannes, set beside Boulevard de la Croisette near the sea and Port Canto. Open lawns, paths, benches, and tree shade create a calm pause beside the busy waterfront. Handiplage is nearby, connecting this green space with an accessible beach area.
Designed between 1965 and 1968, the garden was first known as Jardin de Pierre Longue. The city adopted its present name in February 1971, when Port Canto was created. Palms, parasol pines, tamarisks, and ginkgo biloba fill the planting scheme. Along the Croisette side, Brahea armata palms stand out with bluish leaves and slow growth.
Ginkgo trees offer fan-shaped leaves, while tamarisks produce feathery branches and pink flowers in spring and summer. The square has also hosted the Rallye de la Croisette, with its parking area sometimes serving as a secured park fermé. No monument competes with the planting here: the memorable detail is the blue foliage of the Brahea armata palms.
